Identify wrong letters, cropping or illegible type
Compare the actual original against exact wording character by character. Record additions, omissions, substitutions and malformed strokes; inspect both title and byline.
| Problem | First response |
|---|---|
| Wrong character in the original | Supply exact wording and revise the generated lettering or set type separately. |
| Complete original; clipped export | Locate the cropping step. |
| Correct at full size; unreadable small | Address thumbnail legibility without renaming the book. |
When ornamental strokes obscure letters, try a clearer treatment. The title should not become a guessing game. Do not change the author’s pen name to accommodate a generation error.
Choose an image edit or separate lettering
story-cover normally produces a cover with title and byline. The pinned workflow also accepts a reference, requires viewing it, distinguishes an editing target from a style reference and calls for preservation requirements. Mark an existing cover as the editing target and save another result, rather than supplying an image with “make it correct.”
A flattened cover has no automatically movable type layer. Image editing is a candidate route, but adjacent strokes, character art or texture may change; inspect the whole result.
If the author chooses a text-free background and separate typesetting, declare that alternative. Use a genuinely text-free base or remove old lettering, then enter the exact title and byline in a layout tool and export a complete cover. New type laid over visible old errors does not solve the problem.
Correction example: two errors on a luggage-office mystery cover
The original mystery is titled 夜班寄存处, with pen name 江澄, about a night-shift attendant tracing unclaimed luggage. Assume an approved composition has one attendant, deep-blue lockers and a dark-red suitcase, but the image shows 夜班寄存外 and 江橙. This is a proposed correction, with no actual image or generation result.
Confirm the exact Chinese strings first. Select the cover as an editing target and retain the person count, locker layout, suitcase colour, cool light direction and aspect ratio. Add no police, corpse or new plot implication. Use this complete brief:
Use the supplied cover as the editing target. Correct the title to exactly '夜班寄存处' and the byline to exactly '江澄'. Keep the single luggage-office attendant, deep-blue lockers, dark-red suitcase, cool light direction and existing portrait composition. Keep the title at the top and byline at the bottom, with readable contrast and room inside the final crop. Add no slogan, watermark or extra text. Save a new candidate without replacing the original.
After generation, check both strings and the whole composition. Correct letters do not justify adopting a suitcase changed into a knife. Record that deviation for revision. If repeated text edits disturb the art, the author may choose a text-free background and separate accurate lettering, checking old-text remnants, byline and upload preview afterward.
Inspect the file that will actually be used
Keep the original, prompt and reference note, identifying the new candidate and upload export separately. Inspect exact wording, character and key objects, canvas and crop, thumbnail recognition, then the current publishing preview.
More outline, shadow or glow need not help. If strokes merge, reduce decoration and separate lettering from the background. Correct yet unreadable text still needs revision. A correct prompt, an old screenshot or successful generation is no substitute for checking the final lettering.
FAQ
Why check the image when the prompt has the correct title?
The image is separate from its instruction. It can still omit strokes, add letters or substitute characters, and export may crop them. Inspect the version actually used.
Can I just move the title in the image?
Only a separate type layer can be moved directly. A flattened image needs pixel editing or new lettering; its title is not automatically editable text.
Do it with the skill
For actual cover generation or revision, use /story-cover, or $story-cover in Codex, with exact title, byline, intended use, save directory and this page’s concrete brief. Declare reference purpose and preservation requirements, save a separate candidate, then inspect lettering, picture and upload export. The skill calls an image tool and saves files; a prompt cannot replace checking the result.
