Check an established consequence versus an added event

An injury, expense or relationship problem after success may already be established. A newly invented tear, creditor or missing person that cancels the completed task needs comparison with the author’s chapter plan; conflict alone does not justify keeping it.

Established expenditureKeep spent time and material; do not reset them next scene.

Oh Story permits a small visible gain after a payoff and explicitly does not force costs onto quiet, transitional or reward chapters. A win need not immediately become another failure.

Specify the result, revision scope and stopping point

Do not ask only for a lighter tone and leave AI to choose new plot. Supply the passage and current plan: what happened, what follows later, and which portion to change.

Use $story-long-write to revise only the unadopted crisis after this handover and its dependent reactions. Preserve the author-selected inspection, payment and customer taking the curtain. Keep spent labour and material and two repair orders still waiting. Stop before work on the next item. Add no repeat repair, refund, debt, disappearance or secret. Use the book’s voice for the exchange; identify affected lines, then deliver a complete candidate.

This is the example’s local request rather than a permanent ban on refunds or repeat repairs. If an actual manuscript established dissatisfaction, address that result instead of inventing acceptance for a quiet reward.

Complete revision: the customer takes the curtain and the reward remains

Original everyday-life story: Jiang Cen runs a street-side mending stall and has repaired Tang He's worn curtain hem. They agreed to repair only that edge, retain the old fabric and fading, and charge twenty yuan. Tang collects tonight. Two jobs remain; labour and material have already been spent. The author selects inspection, payment, collection and brief tidying, without a repeat repair here.

AI adds a new tear after payment and an immediate refund demand. The author has not adopted that change. Removing the tear while leaving a refund and reopened stitching is an incomplete repair. A complete candidate follows the chosen handover:

Tang spread the curtain, inspected the hem and turned it over. Jiang waited for her to lay the edge flat rather than hurry to fold it.

“The edge is fixed. The old colour is still the same.”

“Only the worn part was mended. I didn't replace the fabric.”

Tang looked again and nodded. “As agreed. Twenty?”

Jiang confirmed. Tang handed over the money. Jiang counted it into the drawer, folded the curtain and let Tang take a firm two-handed grip. Tang left with it.

The twenty remained in the drawer. Jiang gathered the leftover thread, crossed the delivered name off today's list and put the other two repair slips in tomorrow's order.

She drank the cooled tea. A patch of table was clear; the next cloth bundle remained unopened.

The result is this customer's actual inspection, payment and collection, with the item marked delivered. It is not permanent profitability or universal satisfaction. Two jobs remain undone, offering continuation without a new tear. Spent labour and material remain; a quiet moment lets readers feel the success has reached its recipient.

Reread for reactions whose cause was removed

Remove the unadopted event together with dependent refunds, panic, blame and reopened work, then verify that the original handover is complete. Saying there is no tear while later reopening the seam leaves the contradiction.

If pressure begins next chapter, continue unfinished work, an existing relationship or an adopted new arrangement with its source established. Quiet passages can deliver income, recovery, companionship or relationship confirmation. See web-fiction pacing for chapter-level intensity; this local repair need not reorder a whole volume.

FAQ

Does success without a new cost feel too easy?

Judge the book’s promise and intended result. Keep prior labour, choices and limits without charging again after success. An adopted cost needs a source and consequence rather than a formula.

Can this chapter end quietly?

Yes, when the promised result has happened and the quiet carries experience or aftermath. Tools put away, a received gain or a relationship response can close it without an invented secret or accident.

Do it with the skill

Use $story-long-write to compare the passage with this chapter’s result and stopping point. Remove only an unadopted post-success crisis and dependent reactions. Keep established costs, received gains and unfinished work. Identify affected lines, then provide a complete candidate.
