Check the delivered file and caption layer

A captioned editor preview does not establish captions in the exported delivery. Record the current path and missing time. Check that an unbranded master, old preview or picture-only candidate was not sent.

Editor previewConfirm this enabled layer participates in export.

Adobe’s export reference distinguishes sidecars, burn-in and embedded tracks, with format limits. Check your editor’s options. The Video Recap path here supplies SRT and ASS burn-in, not every selectable format.

Distinguish source-burned captions from new text. If local playback shows captions but uploaded playback does not, check the actual upload, platform loading and playback selection before rerecording correct speech.

Inspect the caption path actually used

The pinned video-assemble always generates SRT. With burn-in on it also generates ASS and draws it on the picture. --no-burn-subtitles disables new burn-in while SRT may remain. Check the actual export and errors rather than file existence alone.

In adopted-packet-copy, a present subtitle_track.json replaces all generated captions. Empty cues deliberately removes them. One supplemental cue does not preserve the old list. Source-burned pixels remain.

Author the track on the output clock, binding current picture and adopted audio. Paired output uses audio ordinal 0; current CLI tracks omit edit_plan. Obtain packet count, sample rate and clock from current media. Stale tracks and cues with no visible frame fail.

A valid list can still omit a line. Compare approved wording and playback for coverage. For existing but small or obstructed text, see layout; for text missing speech timing, see SRT diagnosis.

Complete repair: an SRT exists but the sent picture has no text

This original eight-second storage demonstration is a paper plan, with no rendered result. Close the box, then place a blue label at its upper-right corner. The adopted lines occupy 1–3 and 5–7 seconds. The recipient must see text from the video alone.

Assume checking establishes that the old candidate mistakenly used --no-burn-subtitles. The creator’s player loaded an SRT, but the sent MP4 had no new burned text. Sound and the complete cue list are correct; change caption delivery only.

Complete repair request:

Retain the eight-second picture and adopted complete sound, both captions and their intervals. Choose burn-in and disable the mistakenly selected no-burn setting. Check bindings against the current file and carry every cue. Measure readable placement on the closing and labeling frames, clear of the hands and label, then render a separate candidate. With player captions off, both lines must remain visible. Play eight seconds and compare sound, action order and caption boundaries with the approved version.

Measure actual timings in a real project. For the explicit track, verify current zero-origin media, selected AAC and the complete clock before filling bindings. Include both cues in the replacement. Burn-in processes picture; adopted-packet-copy freezes only selected AAC. Check new audio and listening too.

For a switchable-caption requirement, preserve that choice and provide the sidecar with loading instructions. Do not replace it with permanent burn-in without an author decision.

Review generation, burn-in and delivery

Check the full list, the new export’s frames and the same delivery in the recipient’s intended environment. Review cue starts/ends, long text, light/dark backgrounds and cuts, including version, double loading and covered action.

One frame establishes text at that moment; an export-complete message does not establish which file the recipient opened. Record reviewed files and times and check the rest.

FAQ

Does an SRT mean captions are in the video?

No. Separate text and timing need loading; text in the picture needs actual burn-in. Choose for the delivery and inspect the final file.

Can an explicit track contain only the missing line?

The current contract replaces all generated captions. Carry every line that should remain. One valid cue does not restore the others; source-burned text is another layer.

Do it with the skill

Ask video-recap to diagnose this specified problem with current files, times, delivery choice and observations. Locate the first failing stage and propose a local repair, preserving unaffected picture, text and sound. Distinguish probing, rendering and playback; leave unperformed checks pending.
