Classify functions rather than labels
| Judgment | Evidence and next step |
|---|---|
| Screen-ready | Action, audible dialogue, or space already carries the function. Name the judgment, choice, or relationship change before checking resources |
| Needs a carrier | Thought or narration carries it now. Propose specific action, evidence, space, dialogue, or response, then state what survives and changes |
| Not preserved yet | A particular reading relationship creates an effect the current screen plan cannot deliver. Name that loss rather than treating added narration as equivalent |
These are the native analysis method’s three judgments; the later worksheet is an editorial illustration. Heavy interior thought or narrative deception is not automatically unadaptable. Inspect the particular information design and available form. Deliberate VO can be an adaptation choice, but reading the source aloud does not prove an effective replacement.
Find an opening and its necessary context
Compare candidates with strong audience payoff that also establish the protagonist, present crisis, and goal. Do not automatically choose chapter one or the earliest argument. A later peak can be offered as a cold-open option; the creator decides whether to advance it and how to return in time.
For each candidate, state the first image, readable question, and episode payoff. Identify missing causes needed to understand responsibility or rules and how to supply them. If sampling reveals no suitable entry, say “none found in the sampled material” rather than claiming the whole novel lacks one.
Triage proposes hypotheses from sampled chapters; full analysis evaluates plot units. Their denominators differ, so do not manufacture a precise adaptation percentage by converting one into the other.
Original triage illustration: the clock-shop apprentice
This is a fictional candidate novel and editorial illustration, not a report from reading a real book. Assume two plot units have been supplied:
Unit one: Apprentice Xu Ning receives new clocks. The source has already established an agreement: blue tags mark checked new components, orange tags mark items awaiting reinspection. The delivery list specifies blue tags, but the box contains orange-tagged items. Chime associations and interior deliberation express her fear of offending her mentor before she refuses to sign that everything has been checked.
The analysis can propose making the blue-tag list and orange-tagged contents readable together and preserving her objection and decision to sign only inspected items. This retains refusing false confirmation under relationship pressure while reducing poetic associations. The tags are an established fictional agreement, not real clock-inspection practice. Orange tags do not prove counterfeit parts.
Unit two: Earlier narration says Xu Ning meets the courier for the first time; later he is revealed as her long-absent brother, with the narrator having deliberately misstated the encounter. Compare hiding face and relationship information, marked retrospective VO, or abandoning that deception. Concealing identity may preserve uncertainty without preserving the experience of being directly misled by narration. State that difference for the creator’s decision.
An opening could begin with her returning an unsigned acceptance sheet. Why refuse? Two illustrative units cannot establish the whole novel’s episode count. Inspect responses, actual unit endings, and later payoffs. Shop, storage room, required text, clocks, and cross-shot tags all create production work; few locations do not guarantee low cost.
What else should selection consider?
For the accepted production form, record cast sharing a frame, distinct spaces, crowds, action, effects, required text, cross-time looks, and continuity. Generated video, animation, and live action can carry different burdens. Keep alternatives when the form is undecided rather than choosing for the creator.
Also examine protagonist choices, opposing leverage, relationship appeal, and local payoffs. Genre attention or a small cast can suggest candidates, not replace evidence. State actual reading coverage, skipped material, and open questions. After a full read, name corrected triage findings instead of leaving an earlier hypothesis untouched.
Compare a unit before deciding to draft
| Editorial note | What to record |
|---|---|
| Coverage | Read chapters or units and uncovered material |
| Function and carrier | Which information, judgment, relationship, or action changes, and how the text delivers it |
| Screen proposal | Specific retention or replacement, including additions, cuts, and changed meaning |
| Production work | Picture, sound, cast, location, and text actually needed |
| Next step | Full analysis, one-unit trial, or pause, with reasons and unknowns |
short-drama-novel-analyze produces structured analysis, not dialogue, storyboards, or generated media. After the creator adopts a direction, development and script skills can trial the same unit. Compare comprehension without source knowledge, credible action, and retained appeal. An analytical proposal, a drafted page, and a produced scene are separate checkpoints.
FAQ
Does extensive interior thought make a novel unsuitable?
Not necessarily. Inspect the judgments, information, and relationship changes each unit’s thoughts carry. Propose a concrete carrier and state the lost reading effect. Keep unresolved risks instead of rejecting a whole book by the amount of thought.
Can sampled triage decide the whole episode count?
No. State actual sampling coverage and treat any preliminary scale as a hypothesis from it. Full analysis proposes candidates by units and payoffs; the creator chooses, combines, or splits them. Do not convert sampled-chapter proportions into full-unit proportions.
Do it with the skill
Use /short-drama-novel-analyze (or $short-drama-novel-analyze in Codex) on the supplied source for triage: report actual sampled coverage, functions and carriers, opening candidates, production work, and unresolved risks without writing a script. If I request full analysis, cover it before proposing plot-unit candidates and identify corrected hypotheses. I choose the final direction.
