Replace a vague label with evidence
Drama Skills distinguishes causality, strategy, expression and shot repetition and asks for locations plus a concrete loss. This original draft review does not turn words or genre conventions into banned items.
Suppose episodes two and three both have an opponent announce a secret. The protagonist only asks why, observers react in turn, and a concluding line explains restored dignity. If neither reveal depends on her choice, diagnose causality. Repeated expression beats are a separate issue.
Locate scenes and lines. One clenched fist or camera push does not establish a formula; explain the harm to this story.
Repair the layer that causes the problem
| Layer | Compare | Repair |
|---|---|---|
| Causality and strategy | How answers appear; who changes approach | Retain facts, but connect a reveal to established leverage and a consequential choice |
| Expression | Explained choices and identical closures | Remove redundant interpretation; retain unresolved effects and individual rhythm |
| Shots | New attention served by each cut | Follow evidence, relationships and reception rather than pushing in on every line |
Causality asks who causes events; strategy asks how someone pursues a result. Record them separately instead of calling both poor pacing.
Compare information across the scene. Equally sized revelations can flatten emphasis. Allow time for reception and action without demanding an explosive fact in every line.
Example: retain the secret, change its delivery
Instead of another unsolicited admission about an altered register, the protagonist can face a choice involving her existing original handover record. Immediate disclosure would expose the coworker who kept its copy. She asks whether they will submit it together; after agreement, she presents it and the opponent changes their account.
This converts a free answer into a decision with consequences. The copy, coworker and submission opportunity must be accepted story facts. If absent, decide them at the planning stage rather than letting review invent evidence.
After removing the dignity summary, check whether submission, a refused arrangement or a changed responsibility still conveys the result. Restore necessary action if it does not; deleting explanation alone is insufficient.
Protect repetition with a purpose
A repeated greeting from a new speaker may mark transferred authority. A running joke may impose a different cost. A locked two-shot may deliberately sustain pressure and need no variety cut.
Ask what the recurrence adds, whether it is intentional and what retaining it loses. Insufficient evidence calls for a question rather than an automatic rewrite.
Compare the original locations after revision: does a choice affect the result, does opposition adapt, is expression necessary, and does each shot serve its purpose? Adding identical pauses to every episode would create another formula. Actual pacing still needs viewing.
FAQ
Is a locked two-shot automatically formulaic?
No. It may deliberately sustain pressure or a relationship. Identify a concrete loss before deciding to revise.
Do it with the skill
Use $short-drama-review to cite comparable locations and diagnose causality, strategy, expression or shot repetition with its concrete loss. Check deliberate rituals, comedy and locked-shot exceptions. Report problems and repair goals without adding secrets or evidence; I will choose the rewrite scope.
